Before getting to the difference between hyperfuse and hyperdunk nike shoes, one needs to understand the similarities first. The shoes originate from the same firm and were launched in 2011 to rave reviews and intense anticipation. The similarity ends there though and the differences start to emerge. To best highlight these unique features possessed by either shoes, the features need to be highlighted individually. Some of the main differences, both noticeable and tiny, are listed below:
Hyperfuses heavier that hyperdunks
The hyperfuse sneakers are slightly heavier than the hyperdunks. This design was intentionally input because while the hyperfuse shoes are meant for general use like running and walking, the hyperdunks are more aligned towards basketball where they are more favored due to their light nature which makes movement and jumping easier.
Hyperfuses have more ventilation as compared to hyperdunks
The hyperfuse sneakers are known to have more foot room and designed in such a way that ventilation of the feet is made easier. The hyperdunks have a firmer grip on the foot to limit chances of injury as during aggressive action, the foot should not have room to move around. Basketball involves random and instant changes of direction which required the foot to firmly hold the positions it is set. Any space in the shoe can result into career threatening injuries.
Hyperfuse nikes have innersoles that are much more slippery as compared to the hyperdunks which are required to always hold the foot in position. The insoles of hyperfuse shoes are so slippery because they are afforded ‘breathing’ room and should thus not be used to play action packed physical games unlike the hyperdunks which have quality sole grip.
The design of the two different styles of shoes favors hyperdunks in the ankle support debate. The hyperfuse nikes have normal shoe backs which allows the ankle to maintain mobility while the hyperdunk nikes have a slightly protruding back which comfortably accommodates the ankle like a socket and a plug, the perfect fit. The shoes were designed in such a way to restrict ankle movement during intense action, usually during the basketball games. The shoe becomes one with the shoe and influences the shoe movement.
Cushioning and traction
There is a big debate about which of the shoe types is more comfortable and the general consensus is that both are comfortable for the parties that wear them. The hyperfuse shoes are designed to be comfortable on the streets while the hyperdunks are made to be comfortable under the conditions they are used in. However, the hyperdunks are undoubtedly the best in terms of traction when compared to the hyperfuses because they are designed to withstand high intensity use through the solid outsole rubber with a herringbone pattern for maximum traction.
The general agreement is that both shoe types offer innovative and uniquely variant qualities that suit their individual uses to function at a superior level. This means they should be assessed based on their separate qualities.
